Flemming Splidsboel Hansen specializes in Russian and Ukrainian politics and is a prominent expert in global security with a sharp worldview. As a Ph.D. and senior researcher, he has contributed in-depth analyses and knowledge within Russia’s domestic, foreign and security policy, Russian identity and the political conditions in the former Soviet states for several decades. His research also includes the relationship between the EU and Russia and the current conflict in Ukraine.
Flemming is known for his ability to make complex issues accessible and understandable to a wide audience. In 2023, he received DR’s Rosenkjærspris, – an award given to a person who conveys difficult material in a lively and understandable way. In the same year, he was also awarded the Ministry of Education and Research’s Research Communication Prize for his efforts in informing about the war in Ukraine.
He has given over 1000 interviews since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and is a frequently used expert in both Danish and international media. Flemming writes regularly for, among others, Ræson, Berlingske, Jyllands-Posten and Politiken and is often seen in various TV programs and on lecture stages.
